Live-Action on Cartoon Network by Kitschensyngk Live-Action on Cartoon Network by Kitschensyngk
On June 17, 2009, Cartoon Network made yet another attempt to kiss up to Nickelodeon and Disney Channel audiences by launching a block of LIVE-ACTION REALITY TV SHOWS.

In a time where nearly every cable channel on the dial has started putting on shows which have nothing to do with their name or their original format, the fact that Cartoon Network has joined the ranks of these ratings whores saddens and disgusts me. CN Real is quite possibly the stupidest idea they've ever had since their insufferable live-action original movie Re-Animated and its equally insufferable but thankfully short-lived spinoff Out of Jimmy's Head.

I make this stamp in protest of the idiotic executive-driven decision to produce and broadcast live-action programming on a channel originally devoted to ANIMATED CARTOONS for the sole purpose of increasing its viewership.

It's called Cartoon Network for a reason.  When you put that channel on, you expect to see cartoons.

I don't remember any of the live-action shows on Cartoon Network other than Out Of Jimmy's Ass. I guess that just shows how much of a failure it was. It's nice that Cartoon Network is currently doing good again (pushing aside the reboots).

When did cartoon network show a live action? and could you please give me a name of the programme? I don't recall ever seeing anything other than cartoon, unless it differs between countries, UK here :p

Toward the end of the last decade, Cartoon Network US started experimenting with live-action programming in an attempt to compete with Disney Channel and Nickelodeon for ratings. Their first major experiment was a nonsensical TV movie titled Re-Animated and the equally nonsensical series it launched, Out of Jimmy's Head, about a boy whose brain got swapped with that of a famous cartoonist who could see cartoon characters in his head for some reason. It only lasted one season, and after that there came a block of kids' reality shows called "CN Real", a physical game show called Hole in the Wall, and a child actor sketch comedy Incredible Crew, all of which ultimately flopped.

Nowadays, they have mega-hit animated series like Adventure Time, Teen Titans Go!, Regular Show and Steven Universe to rely on, so apart from the occasional movie, they don't really show any live-action stuff these days, outside of Adult Swim in the late-night hours. They recently re-branded their classic cartoon sister channel Boomerang to be more family-oriented, so my guess is any new live-action kids' show they think of will probably go there.

I made that stamp back in 2009, not long after CN Real was launched, so it's been mostly obsolete for the last few years now.

Ah okay, thank you for taking the time to explain!
Now you have mentioned game shows
I do remember them doing skatoony and something stupid to do with a truck and keys
a game show of kids vs cartoon.

I agree though even if it is out dated it is wrong to slap live action on a cartoon channel

Didn't they make a show called "Canadian Dude" or something like that? I never got why most CN shows relied on Canadians as jokes, pretty lousy if you ask me considering that I'm Canadian and not that funny.

The only Canadian shows I know of were the ones they picked up during their north-of-the-border Flash animation period (Total Drama Island and all those). Before that they had a show called "O Canada", which featured National Film Board of Canada cartoons.

If they are going to do that, then TBS will need a kids block because TBS isn't for kids.

true but look at Nick and Disney Channel these were intended for families and were able to get away with showing cartoons and live action shows. Cartoon Network was a groundbreaking channel that aired cartoons 24/7 (before adult swim came along) and help inspire future cartoonist like me i was furious and angry when CN Real aired in 2009 so i quit Cartoon Network at that time. im glad theyve stopped with the live action shows and they are getting better (but thats not saying much) i dont know how long CN is gonna milk these "surreal" concept shows

From 1992 all the way through 2004 CN died. They changed their logo and ended all, the REAL cartoon cartoons such as Courage the cowardly dog and Powerpuff girls.
All the show on there are garbage an I will make sure my little brother NEVER watches that channel when he is older.

It's perfectly reasonable. Parents have say over their children until the children are of age.

The shows on Cartoon Network do nothing to my children but provides them horrid humor, I know that I may seem too harsh but these shows are unwatchable able except the very few. Yes I think it's reasonable to not let my kid watch a SHOW I still love CN but it's the shows.

This doesn't make any sense

What about Kamen Rider Dragon Knight? Sure, I know it's not a cartoon but it was one of the few that gets squeezed in the Australian time block because that the other channels were probably full at the time. Not to mention it only aired once and that was it. It never aired again, save for the people who still upload episodes on YouTube and such.

But to me it was considered one of the few good live-action shows on Cartoon Network, even if half of the fight scenes were cut off from Ryuki despite I'd never watched it.

Other than that, I agree. Unless they had a good show like Dragon Knight then Cartoon Network shouldn't do it, that's Disney and Nickelodeon's job.
